It will be a special day on Tuesday, December 18th. Santa will greet the students with a boisterous ho, ho, ho; and all the good children will be treated to candy canes!
The hallways are filling with the aroma and sounds of the holiday! The First Thanksgiving play is being diligently rehearsed every day and will be performed by the Extended Day Class on Monday, November 19th. Hopefully for all of the students who presently attend or have attended the SWSM Extended Day program, their first true experience of Americana when asked would be our infamous THANKSGIVING PLAY — for you cannot be in the play until your kindergarten year, a right of passage so to say. You are officially old enough to come together as a group and tell this historical story to an audience — not just any audience, but your family!
The most meaningful of all the enterprises involved in this production is the simple and so effective moral lesson. The white man flees the King of England to be free. The Native Americans with their rich and diverse cultures were the first people to occupy this land. The white man and the native man may look different and live differently but are ultimately one in the same. They both seek respect, peace, liberty and harmony amongst themselves and equally with one another. It doesn’t get more American than that!

A new parent meeting is scheduled on Wednesday evening, August 29th, at seven o’clock. This meeting will introduce you to the Montessori philosophy and the basic view of children, families and learning that we have here at SWSM. We hope you will make arrangements to attend this adult evening so Kathy Williams can answer your questions and concerns. This meeting should last only about one hour.
Please join us for Mother’s Tea celebrating “Amazing Women” around the world and throughout history on Friday, May 11th! The children and teachers work for weeks to make this a special occasion for everyone. So don’t miss this exciting time here at SWSM. The scheduled arrival times for children and guests are as follows: WAM Class – 9:30 a.m., EAM Class – 9:45 a.m. and EPM Class – 1:30. Mark your calendar for Father’s Night! The excitement is building as the children prepare to bring their dads to school to share in a special evening and show off their favorite works to him. It is also a great opportunity for you as a parent to spend some quality one-on-one time with your son or daughter.
The East and West A.M. classes will celebrate on Wednesday, April 18th; and the East P.M. class will celebrate on Thursday, April 19th, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. If it is not possible for a dad to attend with your child, a grandfather, uncle or family friend is welcome to join us. This is certainly a not to be missed occasion!
