Twelve years ago a very special addition arrived at Southwest Suburban Montessori School. Sally was no more than a ball of fur but then soon commanded a very special place in the hearts of all who knew her. Hardly a day passed without someone asking, “Is Sally here?” She’s been part of every celebration and often dressed for the occasion be it Halloween, Christmas, the Thanksgiving Play or Easter. She’s passed out treats and shared Valentine’s Day with everyone (who knew what a Scooby Treat was before Sally). She’s lunched with the kindergartners, shared a snack with preschoolers, joined recess fun and always obliged a trick or two for a treat. She’s posed in class pictures, joined in the Palos Park Parade, adorned tee shirts for young and old and even comforted an occasional upset child. But most importantly is that she stole the hearts of hundreds of children and families during the years, Sally LOVED coming to school with Sharon… every day! It was her job! That said, I tearfully tell you that our darling companion passed away on Thursday afternoon, very suddenly. Things won’t ever be the same without her, but she leaves quite a legacy and will be remembered by so many and why not, this was Sally’s favorite place to spend her days among the children she loved so much.
